David Vollrath was born and raised in the Korean strip mall called Annandale, Virginia. In fifth grade, he confiscated his father’s Pentax ME-Super Single Lens Reflex camera to take pictures. His father became bald and docile.
During seventh grade, David hip-hopped and break-danced on camera. He filmed himself religiously, and then his friends, and then his family. Watching himself on film taught him a great deal about his dancing and his life in general. Something needed to change.
David’s first narrative film, The Bunnyman Project, debuted in 2001. Critics in his 9th grade English class gave it rave reviews. David claims his later work is much better. He directs his latest projects: narrative films, commercials, documentaries and web content, in New York City while also working as an editor, cinematographer, camera operator, AC, and production assistant.
